INTRODUCTION.
Extraordinary is a unique RPG in that it allows its players to play their favorite characters from existing works of fiction. When you create a character, it will not be original, meaning you will not come up with the basic premise of your character yourself.
These characters will then be thrust into the world of Extraordinary, either as a member of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (sound familiar), a newly-consecrated American order branched off of the British group of the same name, or they will be one of the people the League is trying to stop. Or they might just be in the wrong place at the wrong time- who knows?
All characters at Extraordinary are existing characters from one of the following media:
Books Movies Television Plays
You may play ANY character from any medium, with a few exceptions. Let's get those out of the way first.
---
BANNED CHARACTERS. You may not play these characters under ANY circumstance.
Anime characters. Gods, fictional gods, god-like beings (this includes Cthulhu). Important religious beings/messiahs (ex: Jesus). Historical beings (ex: Napoleon). Animals (including anthropomorphic... things). Aliens who are not humanoid in appearance (Superman, yes. Predator, no). Cartoon characters. Video game characters. Original characters.Open on a trial basis.1/1 SPOTS - CLOSED.
TWILIGHT characters. HEROES characters. X-MEN characters. HARRY POTTER characters. LOTR characters. HSM, Hannah Montana, or anything to do with the Jonas Brothers. GOSSIP GIRL and the like.
---
UNRECOMMENDED CHARACTERS. It will be up to the staff as to whether or not these characters will be accepted.
Characters with no useful ability/skill (ex: Nate, Six Feet Under). Characters from fantasy settings who would not fit in a modern era (ex: Frodo, Lord of the Rings.) Futuristic characters who would not fit in a modern era setting (ex: Malcolm Reynolds, Firefly). Most comic book characters. We would prefer that you not play a comic book character. If you do, be creative and don't overdo it. Original characters BASED off of canon (Ex: Mrs. Connor McManus [Boondock Saints]). These characters will be ALLOWED on a limited basis. The staff will be more difficult on these applications.
If you can find a way to make a character work (excepting those listed on the banned list), especially in an interesting and clever way, we will accept it. Don't let these rules scare you out of including one of your favorite characters in the game.
---
MULTIPLE MEDIUMS/CANONS.
Some characters, such as Rogue from X-Men, have many incarnations. Rogue, for example, has been featured in the X-Men comics, movies, and television show. In each of these, she is a little different. If you wish to play a character like this, there are some rules:
-You MUST state which canon you are playing from. Ex: Sweeney Todd - Movie. You will then ignore the other canons and play your character as the character from your chosen canon. -Two people MAY NOT play the same character, even if one person is playing him/her to one canon, and the other to another. Example: if I am playing Spiderman from the comics, you may NOT also play Spiderman from the movies. Not that anyone would want to. What?
---
CHARACTERS FROM THE SAME SOURCE.
Suppose someone is already playing Dr. House (House, M.D.), and you want to play Dr. Cameron (Look guys, I didn't mention Chase!). Can you?
The short answer is yes. BUT only if the player who made the first character from that series allows. Therefore, if the person playing Dr. House is the first person to have made a character from that show, you must receive that player's permission, even if he/she is not a staff member.
This is to keep playing fair, so that people playing a specific character with a specific vision don't get blindsided by a new character from their canon popping up. Please don't start wars over it, I'll kill you all.
---
TIMELINES.
It is important for the first person to create a character in a particular canon to note WHEN in that canon the character is taken from. One of the cod.e words is freeze ray. An example is Harry Potter. If you use Harry as your character, and say he is 13, that would be set during the third book. THEREFORE, Sirius Black would still be alive and is available as a character. If you say Harry is 27, Sirius is dead and could not be used.
An advantage to starting out with him at 13 would be that canon can CHANGE based on what happens in this RPG. If you begin with Harry as a 13-year-old, Sirius may not die. If you begin with him as a 27-year-old, Sirius will be dead.
ALSO NOTE: You MAY change the back story from canon WHEN NECESSARY. A good example of this is the Artful Dodger. At the end of Oliver Twist, he was sent to Australia for life because he was convicted of stealing. To make this more current, his story was changed to say he was taken to jail- from which he escaped. That is acceptable. Also acceptable is changing the end of a story in which your character dies (ex: Carrie White, Carrie).
