PERSONALITY: At her base Calypso is a caregiver. She is a stern but benevolent woman. She leans towards being a provider, but this does not mean you can take advantage of her. It will always be very clear when you are pushing your luck.

The most important thing for most people is to stay on Calypso’s good side. She has a vengeful and unrelenting fury when she is wronged or crossed. She will harbor a grudge. Calypso tries to be forgiving, but it all depends on how severe your faux pas was.

Calypso is unpredictable and spontaneous. She is also a playful flirt. She is something of a seductress, as you might imagine the goddess of the sea to be. Or nymph. Or whatever she technically is. Honestly, she has to be appealing. Otherwise who would risk their lives out at sea? Think siren. Sea creatures are like that for a reason.

HISTORY: Calypso was happily spending her time as Goddess of the Sea until the Pirate Lords of the Brethren Court decided it would be a good idea to bind her in human form. She does not appreciate this. Then to add insult to injury she discovered that it was her dearest Davy Jones who turned her over.

She attempted to free herself by bargaining with Captain Barbossa and by retrieving Captain Jack Sparrow from the world’s end and all that fun stuff. Barbossa sets fire to the Nine Pieces of Eight in an attempt to release Calypso. Unlike in the movie, this is unsuccessful.

Of course Calypso was upset, but there’s not really much she can do about it. She watched from then on as the world changed. The time of pirating faded and the world seemed to get smaller. The discovery of the “new world”. After some time of contemplation this seemed like a good place to move on to.

New Orleans. New France, conquered, ceded, bickered over, sold. She felt right at home here with the roots of voodoo and living at sea level. A lively little port town with a much more interesting variety of cultures and people. She made herself a new creepy swamp home and stayed comfortably there.

Calypso always pursues new ways that she may be unbound from her human form. She always used to, at least. The information is more difficult to find now. There is a lot more information out there, but she isn’t quite sure where to find it. She isn’t really a library person. Calypso has put that aside for now, though, there is a certain league in her sweet little New Orleans.

APPEARANCE: Calypso’s original form is hard to define. Big and wavy and watery? Whatever that sea looks like. Now Calypso is bound in human form. She is lean and fit. She wears her hair in dread locks with various items wound in, beads or feathers, whatever catches her eye that day. Her skin is ebony and she has honey brown eyes.

Calypso wears her lips black and various amounts of eye makeup. At times it’s difficult to tell what is tattooed and what is just black makeup. She likes to dress in older style clothes, vintage if you will. She likes layers. Most of her clothes look worn from the weather or from work. Calypso doesn’t like to wear shoes.
